5 Food You Can Still Eat After Expiry Date

Foods are safe to eat after the best-before-dates.

According to Dailymail.co.uk, some foods are safe to eat after the best-before-dates, even the expiry date, no longer taste good but it couldn’t make you ill. And here is a big difference between best-before-date and expiry date.

Best-before-date is about quality, not safety. If your food best-before-date is passed, it doesn’t mean that it will be harmful, it might begin lose its texture also flavour. Meanwhile, expiry date is a date when a food may no longer be eaten safely, like poultry or the other foods in order easily foul. Here are some foods are likely good to eat past the best before and expiry date.

1. Cookies

Over a long period of baking, it’s okay to eat more cookies two months after best-before-date. Keep in mind that it’s best to eat after you rebake those cookies to restore crispness and freshness.

2. Cereal

Cereal is okay to eat for up to a month past the best-before-date, as long as the boxes are tightly closed and not being exposed directly to sunlight.

3. Chocolate

The shelf life of chocolate is longer if it stored properly on the refrigerator of 20°C. The chocolate no longer taste so good but you can still eat after the expiry date. It also applies for the other sugars used in foods.

4. Cheese

You can still eat hard cheeses such as cheddar after its best-before-date, even mold has started to form on the outside, just make sure to cut off any mold parts before consuming.

5. Yogurt

Although yogurt made by milk, you can still eat 6 weeks after the expiry date. Ensure that caps and lids are tightly closed and it stored in the refrigerator. If the smell and colour are changing, you better put that down.
