The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to innovate to create public facilities and transportation system services as well as non-motorized friendly transportation mode that is safe and comfortable for Jakartans. One of those is by making bike lanes along the road that are applied to the Odd-Even system. To test the bike lanes, the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, along with his staffs have also tried it from Velodrome in East Jakarta to the Jakarta City Hall in Central Jakarta, on Friday (9/20).

The socialization of the Bike Lanes Design Trial itself has been held since September 17, 2019. While the first phase of the trial implementation has started on September 20 to November 19. The trial area is located on the route of 63 km bike lanes network which is divided into three phases, and covers areas of East Jakarta, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta and West Jakarta.

Furthermore, Anies wants Jakarta to be a bike-friendly city. If Jakartans use the line for cycling, it will have an impact on improving the quality of the environment in Jakarta. "So I invite all Jakartans to look at bike not as an equipment to workout but also as a transportation, so we prepare the lanes for habituation and encourage more who use bike for daily activities. We hope Jakarta will become a pioneer of bike-friendly city," Anies said.

The "Bike Lanes Design Trial" is also a collaboration with The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) of Indonesia, the representation of Jakarta cyclists, and technical agencies in DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to realize permanent bike lanes at the end of 2019 that can be enjoyed by Jakartans.

Three phases of the Trial consist of Phase 1 including Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan to Jalan Pemuda on 20 September to 11 October, Phase 2 along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman to Jalan RS Fatmawati Raya on 12 October to 1 November, and Phase 3 along Jalan Tomang to Jatinegara on 2 November to 19 November.

The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) will also work closely with the Metro Jaya Regional Police to ticket motorists who pass or stop on the bicycle lane. The action will take effect on November 20. Later, motorists who enter the bike lane will be fined a maximum of Rp 500 thousand. Therefore, DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency also mobilizes mobile officers along the bike lanes.
