The Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency will hold Jakarta International Folklore Festival 2019 at Lapangan Banteng for three days, 13 to 15 September.

The Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency will hold an art performance titled Jakarta International Folklore Festival (JIFF) 2019 at Lapangan Banteng in Central Jakarta. This event will take place for three days, 13 to 15 September 2019.

Head of Jakarta Art, Culture and Tourism for Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency Gumilar Ekalaya said, Jakarta International Folklore Festival 2019 will be held to raise the stage of arts and culture in Jakarta. "JIFF 2019 is deliberately carried out by DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to encourage cultural arts performances," said Gumilar Ekalaya, at Paradigm Cafe in Menteng, Central Jakarta, last Tuesday.

The event, which will start at 19:00 to 23:00 WIB carrying the theme 'Friendship Through the Spirit of Unity'. The theme aims to spread the spirit of mutual understanding and world peace through art and culture. According to Gumilar, art and culture must be explored and introduced to the world, because currently the performance of traditional arts is receiving great attention on the international scene.

The JIFF 2019 Steering Committee Maria Darmaningsih said, the folklore handed down by the ancestors will be shown in dance and music performances. "When the eye sees beauty, it is precisely our diversity and it must be transmitted that diversity is Indonesia," Maria said. Maria also explained, everyone can be happy when watching dance and music performances to balance the rigors of life in Jakarta.

The presence of JIFF is also to introduce and preserve intangible cultural heritage to the community, especially young people. The reason is that the development of modern and digital world has made millennials less interested in world cultural heritage.

JIFF 2019 will feature 28 groups from various provinces in Indonesia and eight other Asian countries, including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Ukraine and Vietnam. Each representative from these countries will present the art of dance and music traditions originating from their respective regions.
