The Jakarta administration has decided to extend the odd-even traffic policy that many deemed successful to ease Jakarta’s traffic congestion. Starting Monday, October 15 until December 31 2018, the policy will continue with several changes on the affected roads and the implementation period.
Previously, the odd-even traffic policy has enforced since July, prior to the 2018 Asian Games, in a bid to ease traffic congestion for athletes, contingents and visitors, until the end of the Asian Para Games that concluded on Saturday, October 13th.
The new extension that will run for around 10 weeks, the policy will not be enforced for 15 hours straight like during the Asian Games and Asian Para Games. The policy divided in two sessions, the first session spans from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and then in the afternoon to evening from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The traffic policy will not be apply on Saturday, Sunday and national holidays in accordance with the presidential decree on traffic.
The affected roads include Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Jl. MH Thamrin, Jl. Jend. Sudirman, some parts of Jl. Jend. S. Parman, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. HR Rasuna Said, Jl. Jend. MT Haryono, Jl. Jend. DI Panjaitan and Jl. Jend. Ahmad Yani. The policy did not apply on the nearest intersection up to the toll gates and vice versa.
