WeLearn, a Platform for Women Who Want to be Entrepreneur

WeLearn, an online platform to increase equal learning opportunities, as well as empower women who want to start their businesses through skills development.

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in the economy with a high contribution to business establishment (99%) and GDP (60%) in 2018. Last year, the number of MSMEs in Indonesia reached 57.83 million and 60% of them managed by women or the equivalent of 37 million women entrepreneurs.

Even so, there are still many Indonesian women who are confused about how to start and develop their business. Seeing this, UN Women and Sunlight from Unilever, launched WeLearn, an online learning platform to increase equal learning opportunities, as well as empower women who want to start or develop their businesses through skills development.

This platform offers free skills-based learning material adjusted to women's learning needs, as well as providing access to the learning community. Designed together with women entrepreneurs and in collaboration with industry experts, WeLearn curriculum is available in a variety of formats to help women run and complete materials and modules, and of course adapted to their finishing abilities and length of time.

The collaboration between UN Women and Sunlight aims to empower at least 5,000 women entrepreneurs and women who want to be entrepreneurs who are located in three big cities, Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Malang.

As a first step, WeLearn provides entrepreneurial-related material aimed at women who want to learn how to set up and start their business. WeLearn has also passed the testing phase by women entrepreneurs to find out whether the platform is user friendly or not.

Going forward, WeLearn will provide more material related to entrepreneurship and leadership for women who are interested in developing their business. If you are a woman interested to this platform, you can visit welearn.unwomen.org page to learn more about business.
