Towards Eid al-Adha which falls on August 11, 2019, many Muslims begin to look for sacrificial animals. Sacrifice or kurban itself is one of the sharia in Islam. This is stated in the Koran, Al Kautsar verse 2 which reads: "Then establish prayer because of your Lord; and sacrifice (anhar). "
Unlike ordinary animal slaughtering, the kurban is arranged in such a way by Islamic law. Animals that may be sacrificed must meet several requirements so that worship is more perfect. For those who plan to buy kurban animals, consider these following conditions!
1. Type of Animal
The first requirement is that the animal must be livestock, those are camel, cow, buffalo, goats and sheep. One goat or sheep can be sacrificed for one person. While one cow or buffalo, can be used as sacrificial animals for at least seven people. While a camel can be for 10 people.
2. Animal Age
Kurban animal must reach the minimum age specified by Islamic law. Age of livestock that can be used as sacrificial animal include:
- Cow must be at least two years old and have entered the age of three years.
- Sheep must be at least one year or six months old if it is difficult to get a one-year-old sheep. Whereas goat is at least one year old and have entered the age of two years.
- Camel is at least five years old and have entered the age of six years.
3. Healthy Without Defects
You are required to choose a healthy and have no defects animal for kurban. Rasulullah SAW detailed some things that qurban animal should not have. Among them are not one-sided blind, sick, lame, very thin, and don’t have bone marrow.
4. Ownership Status
Animals that can be sacrificed are animals that are obtained halally and are owned with a halal agreement as well. Make sure the sacrificial animal you buy is not stolen animals or belong to someone else, because they will be considered illegal. Likewise with inherited animal.
5. The Procedures for Slaughter
Slaughter of qurban animal must occur at the time specified by the Shari'a. According to Ibn Rushd from the Maliki School of Justice supported by Imam Ahmad, Imam Abu Hanifah, and other Imams, slaughter can be done after the Eid al-Adha prayer until the sun sets on the 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah.
