Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan decided to negate Car Free Day for two weeks, on 15 and 22 March 2020. The rescission is aimed to prevent the spread of Coronavirus or COVID-19.
"In order to protect Jakartans from potential transmission, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has negate Car Free Day," Anies said at press conference at City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan in Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (11/3/2020).
Anies added, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will see the development of Car Free Day after two weeks of being abolished. "After two weeks, we will monitoring again. We will do this while looking at how Coronavirus is transmitted," he continued.
Anies also said that DKI Jakarta Provincial Government had made several steps to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. One of them is by forming a Licensing Review Team to conduct a review of public activities that will be held in Jakarta.
The Licensing Review Team consists of DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and Metro Jaya Regional Police. This policy is adopted in the context of limiting interactions in public spaces between people in a crowd that may not necessarily have a connection to one another.
"The Licensing Review Team will pay attention to a number of influential factors. For example, where are the participants from, how many, their activities, contact intensity, and so on. From there, it will be decided whether they are allowed to walk on conditions, or must be postponed, or must be canceled. This is aimed for us to control interactions so there is no unnecessary transmission, "said Anies.
