Creating Pet Friendly Generation with Yayasan Peduli Kucing

If you are a cat lover and looking for a cat to pet—or simply want to participate on taking care of wild cats in Indonesia, you have to know that there is a community named Yayasan Peduli Kucing (Cat Care Foundation).

Yayasan Peduli Kucing began the name as Peduli Kucing, without yayasan (foundation), and established on January 13, 2010. Miss Qori Soelaiman with her best friends and vets. “We are seriously willing to make a difference and (we think) it’s necessary to have the ‘pet friendly generation’ in Indonesian society, especially for cats, facilitated by the information and communication technology, which is the use of social media,” said Mbak Qori. She likes to play with her pets in her spare time at home. Since she was a kid, she loves animals and not only cats. She thinks animals are very unique creation of God’s. “Although they don’t speak humans, the way they communicate and their affection are pure and honest,” she added.

Peduli Kucing has a patent rights for its logo, creation products, article, and activities on HKI - Direktorat Jenderal Hak Kekayaan Intelektual Kementrian Hukum dan Hak Asasi Manusia Republik Indonesia (the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia) on April 26, 2010 No. IDM000339884. After Peduli Kucing started to actively collaborating with some other commercial feed companies and other companies to do the CSR, the name was changed into Yayasan Peduli Kucing on October 15, 2012.

The main activity the that they often does is to safe wild cats that found heavily wounded, or cats that their owners can no longer take care of them. After being rescued, the cats are under the care of the Peduli Kucing vet team and placed in a member’s home or called as foster home. Healed cats are also sterilized and vaccinated. Then the Yayasan Peduli Kucing will find them an adopter via the social media by uploading photos and videos of the cats. Now this is an opportunity for you if you want to adopt a cat from Yayasan Peduli Kucing. The possible adopter will have to follow several procedures from Yayasan Peduli Kucing, such as interview, house visit, and among other things. When Alinear came to one of the Yayasan Peduli Kucing team’s house, we were welcomed by the members: Ms. Didi, Ms. Erdina, Ms. Karin and the cats. Not to forget, there was also a vet partner, Drh. Nalia Putriyanda. Eventually, there was also a schedule of new cats sterilization on the day. Few of the rescued cats that we got to play with were Toto, Zuma, and Cimut. Peduli Kucing also collaborates with Katakucing to make a calendar with cats and humans as the models. One of the human models was present that day with us, Shafira, who is still young and became the ambassador of Catducation 2016. Catducation is an activity from the Peduli Kucing lines, which is a program of Peduli Kucing Sejak Dini (Care for Cats Since Early Age). The Peduli Kucing team will visit few of kindergartens, elementary schools, and foster homes and give education of the “Pet Friendly Generation”.

Other programs from Yayasan Peduli Kucing are divided into two: education and information spreading via online media, and field works. The education and information spreading are done through the Facebook fan page and website of Yayasan Peduli Kucing. For the field works, there are several things that are not only rescuing but also social activities such as Baksos (bakti sosial) of Sterilization and Vaccination, Fun Education Event such as talkshow or cat show, and the Routine Feed Donation Giving to disable cats owners, and few shelters all around Jabodetabek. Peduli Kucing also published anthology book titled “Berbagi Kisah Terindah Bersama Si Meong” (Sharing Best Stories with the Puss) in 2013 with PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama. The book is also the first anthology book about true animal rescue stories in Indonesia. At the moment, the Peduli Kucing team is compiling the sequel to of the book. Besides that, they also have a book titled “Pacoh: Ketika Kucing Bicara” (Pacoh: When Cats Speak) by one of the team members, Didi Almeyda, which you can also find at Gramedia bookstores.

Sometimes for certain rescue cases, Yayasan Peduli Kucing is also open for donation that will be closed after the cat is totally healed. The foundation also works with company’s CSR to do activities and get funding for the cats’ care.
